On April 1, 2025, the Median Family Income used in the Means Test Calculation to determine your eligibility to file a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy case will change in Texas. The median family income figures are periodically adjusted and published by the Census Bureau. To determine whether you qualify to file a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, you will need to pass the “Means Test.” The Means Test compares your income to the median income of a similar household size in Texas.

As of the most recent update, the following figures will apply for Bankruptcy cases filed in Houston, Texas as of April 1, 2025:

• Family of 1: $63,448
• Family of 2: $83,037
• Family of 3: $95,391
• Family of 4: $110,719
• For families that have more than 4 people, add $11,100 for each additional family member.
